No doubt the Kentucky Derby is one of the most awaited events for all horse racing lovers. The longest running event in US horse racing, takes billions in wagering from bettors from all over the world. But this was the first time in a long history that the race had to face such a deep economic crisis. A crowd of 153,563 people gathered last Saturday in Kentucky, at the famous Churchill Downs. Betting is a huge part of the event, and it adds some thrill to this two minute sporting event.
The crisis reduced the number of folk attending the racetrack, but the Derby is still a symbol of American sports and the most important event, revenues wise, when it comes to US horse racing. If fact, every year the bets placed on the race are over $100 million and the 2009 event was no different. The Kentucky Derby is always a big emotional event, even if you are not into horse racing. This year the results was quite surprising. The underdog, Mine That Bird, given 50:1 odds, won the race. That was a shocking result, we would say one of the biggest in racings long history. When it come to Las Vegas betting, there is no one better than Mr. Hugh Hefner, who is always a protagonist in Las Vegas. A few days ago he was celebrating his birthday party there with a stud of very sexy girls. In a private party held at the Palms Casino Resort, Hefner announced the 2009 Playmate of the Year. Ida Ljungqvist won the title even though it was no surprise since the result was leaked out a few days before the announcement.
The 50th Playmate of the Year Title come with a cash price of $100,000, a brand new car and a bottle of Patron. The 27 year old Ida, was born is Tanzania and was Miss March 2008. Due to the bad weather the party moved to the pool dinner at the Palms Place, indoors. The private function was then held in the Palms Ballroom, while George Maloof, Palms owner, and Hefner spoke to the cheering crowd. Continue

Gordon Medenica, New York lottery director, is convinced that racetracks are dragging profitability from casinos, this resulting in a loss of revenues to be assigned to the state’s education. In this time of economic struggle every single penny is valuable and the competition between gambling activities is heating up.
One one side there is Medenica stating that US horse racing tracks are responsible for a decrease of casinos profits. He is asking for more video lottery terminals at the race tracks in order to balance the loss that Racinos (this is how casinos situated in racetracks facilities are called) are making. In his point of view sharing the same location with horse racing is not helping at all the Racinos profits. The two businesses are separated and not supporting each other. The third time round has been the good one for the young Justin Bonomo. Last Wednesday in Las Vegas he won his first major title in a poker tournament, the WSOP Circuit Event. It was not his first time at the final table, he made it there in 2008 and in 2007, reaching the fifth and the fourth place. But this time proved to be the right one.
Sitting at the final table with Bonomo were other big names of the poker scene like Dwyte Pilgrim, 2009 WSOPC Harrah’s Rincon winner, Matt Graham the 2008 WSOP bracelet holder, Matt Brady and Men “The Master” Nguyen, who was holding the highest number of WSOPC gold rings among the players, and Michael Mizrachi, “The Grinder”.
