There are plenty of reasons why you might want to visit the Garden State, and one of them will be to sample the horse tracks and casinos that New Jersey has to offer. This is the home of Atlantic City, one of the biggest gambling cities in the US and certainly a big entry on the bucket list of anyone who loves to gamble – as it is known for a fantastic selection of high quality casinos. Although little physical damage was done to the casinos by Hurricane Sandy, the lasting economic effects of an enforced closure are still somewhat felt by these venues, and for some of them it was a crisis point.
There are only eighteen casinos and pari mutuel facilities here, despite the fact that the area has a great reputation; however, fourteen of these are located in Atlantic City, which explains the fact that casinos are not allowed elsewhere in New Jersey and thus the space in which they can grow is limited. The biggest casino in the state has certainly had enough space allocated to it, however, as the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort has four thousand eight hundred slot machine games and one hundred and forty three table games. It is not the largest in terms of size however, as that honour goes to Bally’s Atlantic City, which has a gambling floor measuring one hundred and sixty five thousand four hundred and fifty one square feet. Coming in second on number of games is the Tropicana Casino and Resort, which features four thousand four hundred and ninety five slots as well as one hundred and thirty three table games. The other casinos in the city include the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort, now known as the Atlantic Club; Bally’s Atlantic City – Claridge Tower; Bally’s Atlantic City – Wild Wild West Casino (collectively known simply as Bally’s); the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa; Caesar’s Casino Atlantic City; Resorts Casino Hotel; Showboat; Trump Marina Hotel Casino, recently renamed as the Golden Nugget; and the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. The newest addition is the Revel Atlantic City, although it has struggled to stay afloat thanks to many unfortunate circumstances. Then there are the horse racing tracks which you can find within the state, which are as follows: the Atlantic City Racetrack; the Freehold Raceway; the Meadowlands Racetrack; and last but not least of all of the gambling facilities here, the Monmouth Park.
You will find that there is plenty to enjoy here with luxury gaming opportunities and plenty of well rated hotels, fine dining restaurants, and live entertainment shows of many types. There is also a state lottery in New Jersey which you can buy tickets for on a weekly basis, so you can think about getting a ticket to a draw or two while you are in the state if you would like to do so. With so much variety on offer, Atlantic City has to be the place to go for gambling enthusiasts here.
